For crytpozoologists and mysterious-animal researchers, the recent discovery of a new mammal gives support to the idea that just because we haven’t found a certain creature yet (ie, sasquatch or chupacabra), it doesn’t mean they don’t exist. As observed by Kris Helgen, curator of mammals at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History:

"The discovery of the olinguito shows us that the world is not yet completely explored, its most basic secrets not yet revealed."

"You have not seen an animal quite like this before," Helgen said.

It features big eyes and orange-brown fur and weighs about 2 pounds. It is also a carnivore, but eats fruits such as figs as well as insects and plant nectar.

Helgen said his team discovered the animal living in the canopy of the tall trees in the mountains of Colombia and Ecuador.

He said the species "was completely overlooked by all zoologists until now."

Helgen said his team first saw the animal in the Andes in 2006 and have been constructing its family history ever since.

Bedtime-story privilege? According to a professor at the University of Warwick in England, parents who read to their kids should be thinking about how they're "unfairly disadvantaging other people's children" by doing so. If You Read About Conspiracies You're Just Like Osama Bin Laden Apparently
2015-05-21 3:46
At its heart, the story of Osama bin Laden's time at his house in Abbottabad is surreal. The American image of bin Laden - leering at us from under his head wrap as he plots and schemes - is undermined by the mundane realities of his life. The guy was responsible for murdering thousands of Americans and orchestrating a global ...
