A videotape has been released by al Quaeda called "An Invitation to Islam" which invites Westerners to convert to Islam, but cautions that they should hurry. Adam Gadahn, formerly Adam Pearlman of Orange County, Califonia, urges conversion to Islam but then warns, "Decide today, because today could be your last day."

This relates to the idea, expressed by Salafi Muslims, who control al Qaeda, that non-believers should first be given a chance to convert, then attacked if they refuse to do so. Forced conversion after conquest was part of both Muslim and Christian expansion in the Middle Ages, and the message suggests that, if an attack is immiment, it could cause great loss of life and result in a situation where forced conversion of the survivors would again be possible.

There is only one circumstance in which this could be true: if al Qaeda has managed to mine western cities with weapons of mass destruction and intends to set one or more off, then use the others to hold the western world to ransom.

The original aim of al Qaeda (the Foundation) was to end western influence in Muslim countries, but in recent years the continuing penetration of western culture into the Muslim world has convinced al Qaeda leaders that the only way to save Islam in its pure form is to stop the flow of influence at its source, not to terrorize the west into withdrawing. This is because of the appeal of western culture and the fact that young Muslims continue to abandon traditional ways in much greater numbers than those who embrace Salafism, known in the west as Wahabbism.

Little effort has been made in the west to prevent the mining of cities with nuclear weapons. Such weapons would not be exotic "suitcase nukes," but primitive weapons hidden in buildings. US Homeland Security has been notoriously lax about intercepting nuclear material at the country's borders, and only five years after 911 did it install censors in the highly vulnerable Los Angeles port, meaning that al Qaeda has had all that time to import such materials into the country.

Al-Qaida terrorist has Jewish roots

A man who starred in a video released by al-Qaida's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahri on Saturday, inviting Americans to convert to Islam, has been identified as Adam Yehiye Gadahn, an American with Jewish ancestry.

According to Wikipedia, he was born Adam Pearlman on September 1, 1978, the grandson of a prominent Jewish surgeon and the son of musician Phil Pearlman, who converted to Christianity and changed his named to Gadahn (apparently derived from the Biblical figure Gideon.) He grew up in Santa Ana, California, converted to Islam and, in 1995, posted an essay on the USC Web site describing his conversion. According to his parents, Gadahn moved to Pakistan in 1998, where he married an Afghani refugee.

The FBI believes he attended al-Qaida training camps in Pakistan and served as an al-Qaida translator and English spokesman.

It was the second time Gadahn has appeared in the same video with Zawahri. In a July 7 video marking the one-year anniversary of bombings against the London transit system, Gadahn said no Muslim should "shed tears" for Westerners killed by al-Qaida attacks.
