Full Moon & Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower

July 22 - Full Moon: The Moon will be directly opposite the Earth from the Sun and will be fully illuminated as seen from Earth. This phase occurs at 18:15 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Buck Moon because the male buck deer would begin to grow their new antlers at this time of year.

This Full Moon is especially powerful because it is also the third of three Super Moons in a row. A Super Moon happens when the Moon is the closest to the earth, pulling on the earth’s plates and electromagnetic fields. This Aquarius Full Moon will inspire you to release yourself from chains that are controlling and confining, and encourage you to follow creative and innovative ways of thought. With the Sun and Neptune both in chart rulership, instincts regard life purpose run deep and there is serious thought behind long term intentions. With the Sun in Leo, a realistic light will shine on life areas that hold true potential for success.

July 27, 28 - Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower: The Delta Aquarids is an average shower that can produce up to 20 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by debris left behind by comets Marsden and Kracht. The shower runs annually from July 12 to August 23. It peaks this year on the night of July 27 and morning of July 28. The second quarter moon will block out most of the faint meteors, but you should still be able to catch quite a few good ones if you are patient. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Aquarius, but can appear anywhere in the sky.

This shower overlaps with the more famous Perseid meteor shower in August, and those who observe the Perseids are sure to see Delta Aquarid meteors flying on the same nights. Best time to look for both the Perseids and the Delta Aquarids is between midnight and dawn.
