Geomagnetic Storm, X-Class Flare Headed Our Way

Solar activity has intensified. Sunspot 696 unleashed an M7-class solar flare on Nov. 6th (0030 UT) and an X1-flare on Nov. 7th (1605 UT). The Nov. 6th explosion hurled a coronal mass ejection toward Earth and the Nov. 7th explosion probably did, too.
This coronal mass ejection, which left the Sun on Nov. 6th, will probably reach Earth on Nov. 8th.
Geomagnetic storms are possible when these CMEs reach Earth. Sky watchers in Canada, Alaska and northern-tier US states from Maine to Washington should be alert for auroras tonight and tomorrow.

If I didn’t know better, I would say the Sun is very upset with last Tuesday’s election. It seems our solar system is not in alignment with our current political administration. What a surprise! Perhaps there really is something to man’s collective emotion affecting the Sun. Lets put this in the category of “Quantum Physics”
Back to “traditional” science. Just within the last 2 hours, an X-Class flare has set off. This comes on the heels of two M-Class flares within the last 24 hours. The first M-Class was long in duration launching a full-halo CME (coronal mass ejection). Major geomagnetic storms are expected.
Watch for extreme weather to continue. Several reports of “rapid temperature shifts” have been reported. Also reports of “large hail” storms. I would also suggest a sporadic outbreak of ‘straight-line winds, micro-burst, and wind-shears’ to occur without notice.

On the more esthetic side of solar storms, I expect beautiful auroras to occur in the high to possible mid-latitudes.
This Just In
During the writing of this article, a geomagnetic storm warning has just been posted. The Kp Index has just shot up to measure five (5), indicating a geomagnetic storm is in progress. This usually indicates the initiation of “extreme weather” to unfold.
