The Last Taboo?
2010 06 14

"Our Living Sun – the Missing Piece in the Cosmic Jigsaw" is the title of the illustrated talk Gregory is giving this Summer Solstice at Alternatives in St James's Church, Piccadilly. 21 June from 7:20 – 8:00pm.

This could be the first time in British history that a body of people have assembled in a major church to be re-introduced to the real solar deity who has for so long been eclipsed by the Abrahamic religions. Is this the longest running cover-up in history?

It seems that just about all the taboos have gone today, even when there are laws and "wars" against new trends. Witches meet in covens, attending Wicca conventions with no fear of immolation. We have gay TV presenters and church weddings of gay couples. Southwark Cathedral was the setting for The Southwark Mysteries, a play by John Constable featuring Church-licensed medieval prostitutes. Astrology is openly practiced, though no longer by astronomers. A best selling book theorizes that the Earth itself as a being alive (Gaia by James Lovelock).

Yet what ever happened to the most popular deity the world has ever known? What happened to the original god of light who delivers the actual light of life? It was not science that declared Sun reverence to be primitive and ignorant, but a jealous competitor with plenty of stakes.

When social pioneer, Vegeburger inventor, chaos theorist and sideways thinker Gregory Sams showed his book, Sun of gOd, to Geraldine of the legendary Atlantis bookstore, she spread her arms to show how many book they had on the moon, whilst bemoaning the absence of even one on the Sun.

In his beautifully illustrated talk, Gregory will be revisiting the once widespread belief in a living Sun, seen in light of what we know of it today from solar science. He makes it easy to see this complex energetic phenomenon as a conscious life form of a high order, and his talk is peppered with "of course, that's so obvious" moments for the audience. We look at what we get from the Sun and stars: stuff, place and energy. It's easy to see why Sun worship was once widespread but what ever happened to it? He explores a few ways to connect with the Sun and shows how the concept of stellar consciousness leads us to a bottom up understanding of a self-organizing world that is full of design and intelligence.

His talk will be 60 mins with 100+ illustrations. Question and discussion time 30 mins.

Gregory Sams is the author of Sun of gOd, a book that offers an alternative to both the biblical view of creation by an outside agent and the Darwinian view of an accidental world without intent or purpose. Wherever we look, from our brain cells to a weather system, from a termite mound to a star, we find matter self-organizing into form and structure. Could it be that a universal consciousness is itself built from the bottom up, bringing us a Universe filled with intelligence and design, but one which needs no Intelligent Designer? This would require that at the most fundamental level matter itself is imbued with consciousness, an idea not entirely at odds with the ideas of quantum mechanics.
